World Cup countdown – The Ultimate French 11’s

In the famous words of Alan Partridge the French spend all their time chomping on onions going he hor, he hor, he hor! This of course, is not true, as a European footballing nation only the Italians and the Germans have a better record. Jealous? We sure are.

For those of you who were to young to remember, the French had a sensational side in the 80′s winning the European Championship in 1984 and reaching the World Cup Semi’s in 1982, before the Germans cheated their way to the final. They were pretty good in the early noughties too winning the World Cup in 2002 and Euro’s in 2000. Most of that team are still playing today with 22,070 caps between them!

Will Ian Holloway light up the Premiership?

He’s mad, barmy and funny and yesterday Ian Holloway made it to the big time. For the first time in four decades Blackpool are in the Premier League and the famed tangerine dream is well underway. Of course the staggering £95 million (the biggest windfall in world sport) that they will receive has to be invested in a new look team- and therefore extremely sensibly.

World Cup woe for Inter’s Italian and Argentinean players

Inter Milan continue to dominate Italian football and have finally taken that form into European competition. However, while fans in this country are constantly fretting about the difficulty that English players face in securing a place in Premier League clubs’ first elevens, it is worth pointing out that Inter’s starting line-up for Saturday night’s Champions League final against Bayern Munich will, almost certainly, be bereft of Italian players.
