Brand Beckham rolls into Milan

This weekend, David Beckham was unveiled as an AC Milan player during the Rossoneri’s 5-1 home victory over Udinese. While it is yet another example of Brand Beckham embarking on a new project, as the boy from Leytonstone further cements his status as a global icon, the move is essential for Beckham the player. The star will be looking to regain his match-fitness and prove to Fabio Capello he is worthy of a place in the next England squad for the qualifier against Ukraine. If selected, he will pick up his 108th cap and in doing so equal Bobby Moore’s outfield record.

A Tale of Two (Bad) Defences

Q: What do you get if you have two bad defences and two offences that are spoiling to explode?

A: Bolton v Portsmouth

No sooner had I plonked my backside on our comfy, oversized couch than Bolton had taken a 1-0 lead with a nicely taken goal by Matt Taylor. Two minutes later and the lead was doubled as Ricardo Gardner pumped the ball into the Portsmouth goal (even though there was a player in a blatantly offside position).

Kinnear’s the man

Newcastle United may well have turned the proverbial corner. This weekend’s 3-0 away victory at Portsmouth was their first win on the road since March. The team has lost one in its last eight games including beating Aston Villa and claiming a point at Stamford Bridge.
